Floral Park loves our cocktail nights.  You tell my neighbors there’s going to be cocktails and they come out in droves.  Our most recent cocktail night was done in connection with our Garden Swap, and this one was themed Garden Cocktails on the Plantation.  Sue & Ashley hosted a “spirit-ed” evening in their beautiful backyard and invited our neighborly mixologists to create cocktails inspired by their own gardens. Pizza Night

Beer Nuts

img_3305Fifteen Years Ago, Alex and I took a public city bus out of downtown Juneau, hiked up a hill from the bus stop, and found ourselves at the Alaskan Brewing Company.  This was before craft beer really came into its own, and it was just getting started as a cultural phenomenon.  We walked in, and there were a couple small taps, a friendly face, and a sign that read FREE BEER.  We were the only ones there.  We’d found a special little place.  Two original “Beer Nuts.” Continue reading →

Bocce Ball

Our neighbor’s Italian family was visiting from Canada (yes – I got those countries right). We had gotten to know them at W&M’s wedding, and found they were quite fun. So for a change of scenery from W&M’s home, we invited them over to our place for Tortilla Soup and Bocce Ball. The family are Bocce Ball enthusiasts and I had never played before, but was informed that all you need is a beverage (alcohol preferred) and sense of humor. We have that, so it was a date! Summer in Wonderland

While in Seattle, Alex and I visited an immersive art exhibit that was one of the most beautiful I have ever seen.  I’ve always loved hand blown glass art, but this place took glass art to a whole new level.  Neighbors, if you are ever in Seattle, please take the time to visit the Chihuly Garden and Glass.  You will feel like you have crossed through the looking glass, and entered Wonderland.

Hey, neighbors! It’s the most wonderful time of the year!  Well, it’s MY most wonderful time of the year. That’s right!  It’s PUMPKIN season!  Fall has arrived! Each year, I look forward to pulling the fall box out of storage, and unpacking all my pumpkin décor.  But the absolute best part is heading to the store and picking out my pumpkins for the front door.  Check out my speckled pumpkin with the long stem.  Isn’t it just the cutest?  They make me so happy when I look at them.

The Bookstore

img_3402Alex and I spent the weekend in Seattle after our Alaskan Cruise.  We found the cutest little bookstore… only it wasn’t a bookstore… it was a bar… called the Bookstore.  Which made it feel a little more wholesome.  Say what you will about the bar, the food was nothing but wholesome and fresh and amazing.
